What Is Web Site Copywriting?
In 1996 some of the first marketers or enterpreneurial spirits were wondering how to make money on the emerging new technology of the Internet.
10 years later the technology accelerates at a revolutionary pace and is set to change the basic organization of the world. (That's my own passion.)
But standard copywriting has existed in modern development since the 1920s with the likes of Robert Collier
So what's the difference between standard (offline, normal print, direct mail) type copywriting?
Well human psychology has not changed, but the Internet is a different psychological environment to print-ads. There are differences in standard copywriting approaches for catalogues, magazines, mail sent to people's homes, business to business or business to consumer, etc.
Just as there is a different angle for writing copy (sales information) for the web.
Web Site Copywriting takes the timeless psychological understandings of human nature, and applies them to the social, free wheeling information extravaganza on the Internet.
Some Key Differences With Web Site Copywriting
On the web people are looking for quality information rather than a sales pitch. This favours the 'advertorial' approach to copywriting. Which is writing an advert at the back-end of an editorial. An Editorial being an informative review of a topic.
For example, my own How To Get Organized products start off at the webpage www.OrganizeDr.com which explains why you find it so darn hard to get organized. By doing so I offer you very valuable insight into your life, and then lead you to certain conclusions, and finally introduce you to my product offering. That is an example of good web site copywriting.
SEO Copywriting
Another aspect of web site copywriting is the idea of seo copywriting or search engine copywriting (same thing).
I have a page dedicated to explaining and exploring the topic of seo search engine copywriting but here are the essentials:
First, a primer on search engine optimization (seo):
Search Engines use 'bots' that look at websites with algorithms for detecting various things. This includes the keyword content of the page. If you're page contains the keyword several times, and the keyword is in the title of the page, and in the meta tags, etc. Then google (for instance) will give that page a higher ranking in the search engine.
So SEO Copywriting is what exactly?
It's simply the development of a webpage so that it appeals to the search engine bots and algorithms whilst also being appropriate to your human visitors that you are trying to sell to. You can read more about Search Engine SEO Copywriting .
